Franco Ferrarotti proposes a new and interesting reflection about the way we think in the present society. This reflection comes out from the globally perceived tension between the logic of thinking and reading, which is silent e reflexive, and the logic of the audiovisual, which is based on the pre-packaged image that can be infinitely replicated for advertising and psychological mass manipulation. Inevitably, the individual and the involuntary thinking – not predetermined for a defined objective – fall short. It is reasonable to fear that, in this way, the unhampered society is going to overlap the liquid one.
Franco Ferrarotti is an emeritus professor of Sociology at “La Sapienza” University in Rome, he founded the journal “Quaderni di Sociologia” in 1951, and he currently runs the journal “La critica sociologica”.
